For me, painting is a spiritual experience because it is a personal reflection of my feelings and how I relate to the world around me. It might be music, a life experience or an emotion that inspire me to begin a painting but once the paint touches the canvas , an intuitive process takes hold. The joy comes from what emerges as the process unveils the unique qualities of each piece.
I paint in layers and as the layers build, my process of scratching and wiping out areas begin to reveal a language that is all its own and allows me a form of expression without words. It's my personal journal. As Picasso said, "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary".
My endeavors into abstract painting allow me the freedom to enjoy “the process” instead of concentrating on the outcome and my goal for the viewer is to entice them with a sense of mystique to find their own meaning and interpretation beyond just color and form.
